His surgery went really well. Brendan wasn't nervous or even cry the whole time we were there. When they wheeled him into surgery we flashed the 'I love you' sign and he was off. He did tell me later that he screamed when they put the oxygen mask on. That was all he remembered. When they brought him out of recovery he was an angel. He looked at me with the "What the HELL did they just do to me??" look. He was still groggy from the anesthesia and fell back to sleep from the Demerol that they gave him in the thigh before coming out of surgery. It was after he woke up that he was feeling good.
The Dr. told us that everything went well. The huge tonsil was easy to get out, but they had to really dig down for the smaller one. The adenoids he said were very infected and swollen with yellow and white pustules in it. He was really surprised about how badly they were infected. We had no idea that this was even an issue, so I am glad that this solved it! He had the large tonsil taken to pathology to have it looked at, most likely for chronic infection but he wanted to be sure that was all it was, being so huge. While he was under, they looked inside his nostrils to see if there were any blood vessels that were causing all of his nose bleeds. Brendan got a nose bleed at least 3-4 times a week!! They found one really prominent one in his left nostril that was close to the surface and up front, so they cauterized it. YEA!!! NO MORE UNCONTROLLABLE NOSE BLEEDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!!!!
I thought today would be a little worse, but he got right up and wanted to play. Of course he woke up WAY earlier than normal (6:30 am as opposed to 10 am) but he wanted to play the new Lego Star Wars daddy had rented for him. Like I said.... he's doing great! They say that day 3 is the hardest, so I am crossing my fingers that his day tomorrow is a lot like today!
This is good news!
